Pueblo Model Railroad Association

The Pueblo Model Railroad Association is for promoting the interests of scale model railroading, preservation af railroad history, and providing a meeting place for members and guests.

PMRA HISTORY

The Pueblo Model Railroad Association was formed in December of 1984. At first, the club was very informal. Meetings were held once a month at a selected member’s home. As the membership grew, a more permanent location with an operating layout was desired but could not be obtained. In the summer of 1985, the Pueblo Model Railroad Association was approached by the Colorado State Fair to build a portable model railroad exhibit. After building and successfully operating the exhibit at the fair, the membership and interest in the club increased dramatically. An attempt to secure a permanent home at the state fairgrounds failed. Fortunately, a building was found in the newly renovated Union Avenue District. There, a layout was planned and construction began. The membership expanded to about 30 members which required the drafting of a constitution with by-laws and elected officials. Since August of 1987, the Pueblo Model Railroad Association has been forced to moved to other locations. Currently the PMRA does not have a permanent home.

Athough the membership has fluctuated over the years, as of this time there are about 14 active members in the club. Most of the members have a home layout of their own or are planning to build one. The Pueblo Model Railroad Association meets at a member’s home once a month. The meeting is held on the fourth Friday at 7:30 P.M. The official business of the club is conducted at the beginning of the meeting, afterwards the members may watch a railroad video or a clinic on a model railroad subject. This monthly meeting keeps members informed on what is happening with the club and lets the hosting member share their home layout with others. The Pueblo Model Railroad Association also helped form the Arkansas Valley Division of the Rocky Mountain Region of the National Model Railroad Association. The Arkansas Valley Division meeting is held after the PMRA meeting.
