ATSF Raton Pass

Denver & Rio Grande Western
Montrose Division

Owner: Gregory Long

The Montrose Division of the Denver and Rio Grande Western is a 20'x40' HO/HOn3 layout depicting the Montrose Branch located in southwestern Colorado in 1954. The Mainline is actually an out and back loop with a staging/fiddle yard. The staging/fiddle yard represents both ends of the line, Grand Junction and Montrose. Two real towns, Olathe and Chipeta, are modeled in name only. One of the two branches originating out of the dual gauge yard in Olathe is standard gauge the other narrow. The standard gauge Park branch serves a large coal mine. The narrow gauge Empire branch consists of a main yard at Empire and a hard rock mining district on the Silver City branch.

The railroad is controlled by EasyDCC with all engines equipped with sound. Primarily steam with a few 1st generation diesels. Operation uses time-table and train order with a phone system and a 5 to 1 scale clock and car cards to control train movements. Operating positions are dispatcher, three yardmasters and an asst. yardmaster with 6 to 8 road engineers. There are two optional positions availble as either a engine hoster or asst. dispatcher. The railroad is normally operated on the third Friday night of the month from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm.
